Blytheville has become a bad community over the years. People can’t even walk out of their houses at night, or even in the day, without being scared. I personally believe that this is very big issue. I think that if Blytheville had more places where people could sit and socialize without being afraid, then more people will think this is a better community. There could be a new movie theater added and even a bowling alley. In these places, there should be metal detectors, more up to date cameras, and workers that actually look around for anything that looks suspicious. Blytheville doesn’t do any of the following. With this being said, this is why most people are afraid to go anywhere local. Another big problem that goes around the community is drugs and alcohol use and crime. Most people do drugs or even do them in public. It doesn’t look very safe to go somewhere and see someone doing drugs or even drinking. These people even do this in front of children. This needs to stop. Maybe if businesses would stop selling them, then this would not be such a big problem around the community. The gun problem has gotten out of hand too. Jayden Ciepiela states, “There are many crimes happening in Blytheville, and there needs to be something done about it!” I personally think that there should be more places to eat and shop. If there were more strip malls with a lot of different varieties of clothing, people would be more amazed. Also, if there were more restaurants with different varieties of foods besides just Mexican, people would enjoy it better. Our community has gotten out of hand and no one tries to fix it. I think there should be places that everyone would like and not just some people. PSA-Drone safety

Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that starts on October 31, and ends on November 2. They viewed the ritual as a way of seeing their dead relatives; this was started by the Aztecs over 3,000 years ago. Church altars are usually decorated with flowers(marigolds), candles, ceramic skulls, and most importantly pictures of loved ones. Food placed on the altar consists of the loved one’s favorite dishes and treats. . Pan de Muertos is Day of the Dead bread that is prepared and eaten during the season. It is an essential element of the altar, and perhaps the food item that is most associated with the holiday. Drinks should be placed in the altar to quench the thirst of the dead after their long journey back home Spirits of those who have departed visit their families on October 31 and leave November 2. They are easily recognizable symbols of Dia de los Muertos. Dia de los Muertos means Day of the Dead. By Gabrielle Mays
Radiance by Alyson Noel revolves around fantasy, adventure, and romance. The setting takes place in a mansion in England. The character is at a place called “Here”, where the time is always now. “Here” is basically the afterlife that the character crossed into after dying. One of the main characters is Riley Bloom. She is twelve years-old with an outgoing personality. She also demonstrates that she is brave when it comes to certain situations in the book. Her role was a Soul Catcher in the afterlife. Riley made her way into the afterlife by dying in a car crash. Another main character is Bodhi. He is Riley’s guide when it came to finding souls, because he was also once a Soul Catcher. Bodhi made his way into the afterlife by dying from cancer. He also likes to dress like a nerd, with his hair pulled back. There were many major events that occurred throughout the book. One main major event that happened is when Riley Bloom died in a car crash along with the rest of her family. When she reached the afterlife, she was sad because her sister survived the crash and wasn’t able to come with her. One other main major event that occurred was her challenge of catching three Radiant Boys’ Souls to bring to the afterlife, “Here”. She searched and searched in a mansion with Bodhi to find the souls. You have to read the book in order to find out if she found the souls or not. This book revolves around one main point. “Will fear and difficulty cause you to give up in a situation?” Many details were given in the book to provide the answer to the previous universal question. The themes that were stated throughout the book were don’t judge a person by their appearance and don’t give up no matter how hard the situation is. Riley went through many problems when trying to find the three missing souls of the Radiance Boys. She was thinking that she didn’t have the slightest clue what she was in for when it came to looking for the souls. She had to be brave throughout whatever came her way in every event. You couldn’t judge Riley by her looks because she didn’t seem brave or outgoing. PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
By: Mykah McKibben Posttraumatic stress disorder is a mental disorder that can develop after a person has been exposed to traumatic event, such as assault, warfare, traffic collision, or other threats on a person’s life. Many people who have this show symptoms that include disturbing thoughts, feelings, dreams related to the event, and trouble going to sleep or even staying asleep. Almost 8.0% of Americans suffer from PTSD or will experience it through their lifetime. Women are twice as likely to experience it then men. Women are at 10.4% and men are %.0% to develop PTSD. Almost 31% of Vietnam veterans, 10% of Gulf War veterans, and 11% veterans of Afghanistan suffer from PTSD. Sometimes PTSD can be extreme in some cases, that the people affected by it cannot work anymore. There are five different types of PTSD which are Normal Stress Response, Acute Stress Disorder, Uncomplicated PTSD, Comorbid PTSD, and Complex PTSD. Normal Stress Response occurs when a healthy adult has been exposed to a single discrete traumatic event. Some individuals can achieve complete recovery within a few weeks. Acute Stress Disorder is characterized by panic reactions, mental confusion, dissociation, severe insomnia, suspiciousness, being unable to manage even basic self-care, and even relationship activities. Uncomplicated PTSD involves persistent re-experiencing of the traumatic event, avoidance of the stimuli associated with the trauma, and emotional numbing. Comorbid PTSD is a psychiatric disorder and is actually more common than uncomplicated PTSD. PTSD is usually associated with one other psychiatric disorder such as depression, alcohol or substance abuse, panic disorder, and other disorders involving anxiety. Complex PTSD (sometimes called “Disorder of Extreme Stress”) is found among individuals who have been exposed to prolonged traumatic circumstances, especially during childhood, such as abuse. People diagnosed with this are often also diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder or dissociative disorder. People who are diagnosed with PTSD, Depression, and/or Anxiety, don’t always show these signs. But you should always be aware and alert of these. When someone says, “What happened to you wasn’t even that bad.”, maybe it wasn’t that bad from where you saw it. But different people have different emotions, some are stronger than others and can deal with it or you’re the person who is fragile and can break at the simple change of attitude. PTSD isn’t always something you can just “get over”, sometimes it takes time or in other cases it will always be there. Mental health is an important part of a person and if someone’s mental health isn’t good and stable they might not be stable and they need reassurance or just someone there to help them. Some people firsthand struggle with Complex PTSD and know what it’s like to feel as if you have no one, that you’re unwanted, just a problem, like a nervous wreck, or maybe you just don’t want to be alive anymore. But you always have someone there. If it’s at school you should know any teacher will put time aside to listen and help you with what you’re going through. If you’re at home, reach out to a parent or family member, you could even get on your phone and call a friend or something. It’s always better to know you have someone to help you no matter what. The History of Salem Witch Trials
By Emily Davis When Salem’s greatest pastor’s daughters and niece come down with hallucinations, fits, temper tantrums, and screaming recently after indulging in fortune telling learned by their slave, Timba, from Barbados, there's only one thing to blame...witchcraft. The children, unable to come up with answers themselves, blamed the slave and two more outcasted citizens of the town. Timba pleaded guilty after she was subjected to torture and harassment; she eventually gave in. Timba and the other two women were the first hanged for witchery in salem. After this, many more women and girls began to seize. Witch accusations were no longer just toward social outcasts, but now even women of high political accusations (even the governor's wife) were up for trial. By the end of it all, 19 women, 4 men, and two dogs were put to death for witchcraft. Many historians believe the reason so many women and men experienced these episodes is due to poisoning from fungus or infection of encephalitis which is inflammation of the brain and includes confusion, agitation, hallucinations, seizures, loss of sensation, paralysis in certain areas of the face or body, problems with speech or hearing and loss of consciousness. These symptoms greatly relate to the symptoms of the accused women. Over 20 people were burned, stoned and hanged just because they were infected by a fungus. Missing child found alive after being taken by her grandmother seventeen long years ago. The widowed grandmother, who we will refer to as Gothel, will face criminal charges of kidnapping and child neglect if found guilty. The case will be held on December 12th and will not be opened to the public.
Seventeen years ago today, a young child was taken from her home while her parents were sound asleep. The mother claims a noise had awoken her from her slumber and she immediately thought that her daughter, had just woken up from her sleep as well. “I remember getting up and heading into her room thinking it was just her being restless again when I noticed something was wrong.” Upon entering the room, Mrs. Gothel noticed her child was nowhere to be seen. “I went into full panic mode. I scared my husband half to death when I woke him. I was hysterical.” When the police were notified, an investigation was commenced following her disappearance. Months passed with still no word on where the child had gone or who they thought was a leading suspect. Police Chief, Collins, remembered how grueling the case had gotten after the first two weeks. “We couldn’t find the child so we had almost given up, we didn’t have any clues or anything to lead us in the right direction. So eventually, family members became our top suspects, including the child’s parents. The case was slowing down. After the parents had become our top suspects, everything went downhill from there.”, states Police Chief Collins. Eventually, the police got a lead. “When the family became involved, we later found out that the child’s widowed grandmother had been wanting the child to move in with her, but the child’s mother had always said no. So she had become another one of our lead suspects. We had taken her into custody and questioned her.” declared Sheriff Palmer, who was deputy at the time, “But nothing was proved so she was released.” Gothel, who has since been arrested following a break in the case and the recovering of the missing girl, will plead not-guilty to her charges. “I believe what I did was necessary. I was a better mother to that child than her own mother was.” |
